They made these comments during a ceremony organized by the Kosova Protection Corps (KPC), marking the Albanian Flag Day, birthday of the first Kosova Liberation Army (KLA) Commander Adem Jashari and the first public presentation of the KLA.
The main ceremony was organized in the quarters of the Guard of Kosova Adem Jashari in Prishtina, whereas it was attended by senior representatives of domestic and international institutions, diplomatic offices in Kosova, members of the family martyrs, former KLA veterans and other citizens.
KPC Commander, Lieutenant General Sylejman Selimi said that everyone must bow in front of the national flag, because this way we honor the contribution and the efforts of different generations for freedom and independence of the people.
General Selimi also said that the achievements of KPC show a determination, commitment and extraordinary engagement in building and strengthening its own identity, as an institution that reflects proficiency, courage, pride, dignity, patriotism, trust and unbiased service.
On the other hand, KFOR Commander, Lieutenant General Roland Kather expressed his honor for being part of the November celebrations.
In 1999, I was commanding a KFOR Brigade and I had the opportunity to see the KPC since the first days. After I returned to this beautiful country, I had the opportunity to see the great progress achieved by the KPC, its performance in fulfilling the requirements of Standard VIII and significant efforts that have been done under the leadership of General Selimi, to reach out minorities, said KFOR Commander, adding that this is example should be followed by other institutions as well.
General Kather said that it is obvious that KPC members want to know about their future, however there should be no haste in the coming months, while waiting for the decision which will be taken by higher organisms, he added.
Addressing todays ceremony, the Head of UNMIK (UN Mission in Kosova), Joachim Ruecker praised the KPC members for their professional behavior and presentation this morning.
Today it is an important moment to honor all those who gave their life before the international community could intervene in 1999, he said, adding that this event must also be used to see the progress that Kosova has reached since 1999.
He also said that it is KPC that has set an example of how to create a multiethnic Kosova, evaluating its humanitarian assistance to all communities living in different parts of Kosova.
Kosova Parliament Speaker Kole Berisha said during todays ceremony that KPC in the future will become a Protection Force of Kosova, an army of the independent state, which will be supported by the Kosovar people and international friends.
Kosovas Prime Minister and former Commander of the KPC, Agim Ēeku said that KPC is once again honoring the historical events, the suffering and the great sacrifices of the people for freedom and independence.
Ēeku said that Kosova status delay has dimmed a little bit the celebrating atmosphere, however it has not dimmed the commitment and the engagement of Kosovars to conclude this historical process as soon as possible.
They did slow down the pace of Kosovas train which was moving towards the independence station, however no one can stop it completely nor can they change its course or its station, said Ēeku.
Kosovas President Fatmir Sejdiu sent today a greeting message to the Kosovar citizens, due to November 28 national holiday.
Sejdiu called on everyone to join in order to facilitate the path towards independence, adding that Kosova has reached a great significant in these seven years of freedom, thanks to the help and partnership of UNMIK, KFOR and other international structures.
President believes that Kosovar democratic institutions have passed a significant test, proving that Kosova is able to govern itself as a country and to join the community of free and sovereign people.
In his message addressed to Kosovars, President Sejdiu once again expressed his confidence that the proposal of the UN Kosova talks envoy Martti Ahtisaari, which is to be presented at the beginning of 2007, will respect the political will of the Kosovar citizens and their efforts for freedom, democracy and independence. |
