The court acts to destroy moral disobedience of the defense lawyers
Today, the International Panel of Judges presiding over the case against Albin Kurti entered into open war with the Bar Association of Kosova in a court room surrounded by armed international police, including a Romanian international police officer. The defense lawyer assigned in the previous session of the trial, Ferki Xhaferi, refused to attend the court session in a principled act of disobedience, answering Albin Kurtis call to all defense lawyers in Kosova, not to defend him. For this act of moral disobedience, Ferki Xhaferi has been fined 250 euros and Judge Salustro demanded that the Bar Association expel him. The Panel has no right to expel any member of the Bar Association of Kosova. |

The new defense lawyer, Fetije Ukaj, who was appointed to replace Mr Xhaferi at 10.00 this morning, stated that she would not defend Albin without his agreement. She said that without his agreement, she would be in the court room simply to fulfill the conditions of the law and would be just a doll. Judge Salustro asked her, Do you want to comply with the law or with the will of Mr Kurti?
If you think Albin Kurti is above the law, then tell me? Judge Salustro then implied that if Ms Ukaj failed to attend future court sessions, her absence would be a direct cause of extending Albins imprisonment. He implied that Ms Ukaj had failed to prepare for the case today, even though she only received the files three hours before the session was due to start.
Finally Judge Salustro laid down a challenge to the Bar Association. He said that if Ms Ukaj did not attend the next session, the court would appoint the President of the Bar Assocation, Mr Ramė Gashi to replace her.
Albin Kurti stated I dont accept the lawyer Fetije Ukaj because I dont accept you as a court that has appointed her. Exactly the act of disobedience by Ferki Xhaferi is a moral act and it is symptomatic of this court that today near me is a Romanian police officer.
The political nature of this trial and the absence of any solid legal case was shown very clearly today. The court is trying to force Albanian defense lawyers to take part in this case against Albins will, in order to give the trial a false legitimacy. To do this they first resorted to financial threats, today they have tried to destroy the career of Mr Xhaferi, and now, they have threatened the President of the Bar Association himself. As the threats of the court grow more desperate, their mask is slowly being ripped off.
